Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the program participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how to assess stroke and bleeding risks in patients with atrial fibrillation
  2. Describe patient selection for non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs) and warfarin
  3. Review the prescribing indications, dosing, and schedules for NOACs in patients with co-morbid conditions
  4. Discuss the application of shared decision-making to anticoagulation selection, stroke and bleeding risk
  5. Using case examples, describe safe and effective strategies for starting, stopping, pausing and bridging anticoagulant therapy
